Jervis the Best

Jervis the Best is the story of a little boy named Zach who anxiously searches for a friend to replace his loyal pet turtle, Jervis. Zach is nervous about making friends and so to impress the children he meets, he lies about himself saying things like he's a pirate, his turtle is really an alien from space, and even he’s a prince who fights scary dragons. As a pop-up book, the lies of Zach's imagination all come off the page. This helps young readers make the clear distinction between reality and imagination throughout the story. These lies drive each potential friend away until he is left with no one, except for his loyal turtle. It is at this point he realizes that being genuine is the only way to gain true acceptance and that Jervis is a better friend than all the rest, in fact he is the very best.
